In the last 3 years a successful effort was made to support Dreamwidth by gifting points to other DW users. Let's make it 4!
Since part of the purpose of the 3 Weeks event is to generate support for the Dreamwidth site, I'd like to prompt a call for Dreamwidth users who can spare a little cash to offer points for other Dreamwidth users.
What does that mean?
Dreamwidth services can be purchased through points. As explained at the link: "Points cost 10 cents ($0.10 USD) each and can be used in place of cash in the site store."
The minimum points purchase is $3.
One of the pluses of points is that the recipient can use it for whatever they'd prefer, which might include:
- rename tokens
- extra icons
- extending their paid account time
- access to extra features
Some users may not have an easy way of paying for Dreamwidth services, so a points gift can be very helpful. Other users might want a month's paid account as a test run to see if they'd like to pay for one themselves. Since there are some features that are available only for paid accounts, it can be a reason to explore what one can do with Dreamwidth!
Dreamwidth already offers the ability to make a payment for a random site user, but as this event is also about generating activity on the site, it would be nice to tie these things together. This way we can either help welcome new or returning people or gift those already active here.
I will be contributing myself, but I wanted to see if others might be willing to pitch in so that more people can take part. If you would be willing to gift $3 in points, leave a message in a screened comment below. If you would like to contribute more than $3 in points, please mention that in your message so that I'll have some idea what we have to work with. Please leave your message by May 4.
If we can get together at least 5 potential donors, I'll make another post on May 5 asking people who would like to be gifted to make their own screened comments saying they'd welcome a gift. Depending on how many points are pledged, that post will be updated to say we've reached our limit or else it will stay open to requests until May 14.
I'll be matching up requests and offers by giving each donor the name of a recipient, with the goal being to give something to each person making a request. Each donor is then responsible for sending the gift to their recipient(s).
Questions can also be left in comments below and I will either respond directly or update this post with further information.
