Why is it awesome: tinny does an amazing job keeping this community up to date, making it much easier to find active icon communities here on dw. There's also several fun activities hosted there every year.

Why is it awesome: I'm just going to copy and paste what I said elsewhere about this community:

Critiques letters to advice columnists and the answers the letter writers get. I love this community because it is filled with smart people that I am learning a lot from. I'm a person of a certain age, and I know because of the timeframe I grew up in I have a lot of inherit biases and whatnot. I try to be above those biases, but sometimes I don't recognize them. Reading the other commenters to agonyaunt helps me recognize those biases and better myself.

I was just about to rec agonyaunt myself!

Community: c_ent

Why is it awesome: Because it's a com for all types of Chinese entertainment. As it's not limited to a single drama or even a single format there's a chance to find out about different/new stuff and even the chance to chat about it with others who might be interested.

Community: fanart_recs
Why is it awesome: It's a comm where people sign up to share fanart recs about a specific fandom for a month, and I've discovered so many amazing pieces of art thanks to it! I like how welcoming the comm is, any fandom is welcome. It's very well organised and the variety in fandoms always leads to interesting discoveries or bouts of nostalgia when it's an old fandom of yours :D

Community: otome_games
Why is it awesome: For discussing otome games! It is a small comm but there are regular chat posts and it is good to see what other people are playing :D

Community: no_true_pair
Why is it awesome: It's a prompt challenge community with a bit of a twist! Create a numbered list of the characters you're interested in creating about, and then match those numbers up with the prompts given in a later post. It's inspired some truly fun crossovers and gets you thinking outside the box. There's a mini-round going on right now (and you can check out the admin tag to zip directly to the signup and prompt posts, but there's a full round happening in August if that sort of thing interests you!

Why is it awesome: It's a multimedia rec community with a monthly theme that members can vote on. There are a ton of great content linked and it is not only a good way to share new fics, but rediscover some older ones.

Why is it awesome: Their claim is "You should be writing!" - and you may well belt this out with the fervour of BeeGees, singing "You should be dancing... yeah!".
Because that comm is super inspiring, on a very warm and personable level. It's more than a cheerleading comm for writers; the mod posts that go up Monday and Friday are full of valuable writing tips, low pressure excercises, food for thought. The tone is super encouraging, and it always cheers me to see their posts pop up.
Highly recommended!

Omg, I'd come across it before but thought it was inactive, I didn't realise the posts were members-only! That looks like a super cool concept!

Why is it awesome: Always nice to see nature and animal pics, and there have been a variety of contributors.

Community: fffc
Why is it awesome: This is a fanworks prompts community with a new challenge posted every Friday. There is a sticky with all of the current challenges and they also have a regular amnesty period.

Community: fandomsecrets
Why is it awesome: Fandomsecrets is first and foremost about the things you don't feel like you can say out loud to your f-list, or the things you know will result in a fandom mob, no matter if you have a valid opinion or not. But, to me at least, it's also become a place that will both let me know what fandoms people are obsessing about and remind me of old fandoms I haven't thought of in a while. If all your friends have moved on but you're still stuck thinking about *that* fandom, character or pairing, someone else is bound to know what you're talking about! The comments can be a bit wanky at times, but they can also be really nice, and you can anon post if you want to (most people do).

Community: recthething
Why is it awesome: I love reccing things and I love seeing what other people rec! This comm is very active and regularly sees recs for a wide range of fandoms and types of fanworks. But my favorite part is the communty rec posts on Thursdays. It's a fun and super low pressure way to rec things if you don't want to commit to a full rec post!

Community: Write Every Day (hosting list and rules at zwei_hexen)
Why is it awesome: WED is a roving write-every-day challenge that's hosted by a different person each month (but you can tell who's up by checking the hosting list if you lose track). The host will create a post each day, and people comment with their daily tallies/alibi sentences etc. It's very casual and you can drop in and out as you like. I've found it really helpful!

Why is it awesome: People share links to meta that is either specific to a fandom or about fandom itself - always super interesting!!
