Community Huddle: events at other communities
Are you a moderator of a community and thinking of running an event? Are you a member that would like to see something happen? Are you maybe looking for ideas, advice, or a helping hand? Whatever it might be, plot/talk amongst yourselves in the comments. (Try to keep it to one subject per top comment, to make conversations easier to track)

One thing that would be helpful is if new mods could get access to abandoned communities here. For example, I recently tried contacting mods of similar communities to affiliate and got no response.

I already run 3 event communities here and am not looking to take much more on. But it would be good to know what DW's policies are as there are some communities that could be or used to be more active that just seem to be abandoned.

The policy there is DW won't give someone's community to someone else, which I totally understand. It is what it is.

Best option there would be to create a new community, link to the previous community in the intro post, link to it in the old community if it has open posting.

Please add me to your list of 'new mods'! I'm not so much modding a community as squatting on it and attempting to revive it. But I'd love to be part of a group of people interested in revitalising communities.

I know what you mean. I am a mod on a community that was handed over when the original creator left the site. Even if it's just someone answering messages and keeping an eye on posts, that's better than what we have now.

I know some prefer to try and revive pre-existing communities, but there's a lot to be said for creating a follow-up community instead. Mod tools that let you invite folks, create new stickies, delete spam, editing the profile page, adding tags, etc. You could create a sibling community, and then state that's what it is in the intro stickie, and leave an entry in the old community pointing the way (if it's dead, that'll stay up top).

In either case, glad to have more fighting to keep communities afloat :)

I'm thinking of making an additional public post to prompt Dreamwidth love at [community profile] kittens_and_spitefic; I'm pretty sure my major problems are going to be deciding what day to make the post, and worrying over whether people who see the post know enough about the community to understand the context πŸ˜…

I started a challenge for RainbowFic in our lounge, with a prompt list that is free to be borrowed for purposes other than original fiction.

so many questions
Hi! I've known about this since last year, but it is still confusing me, I'm not sure what posts should be tagged. I understand the part about special or short term activities or blogging/writing articles or fic during the time period in personal journals, but I'm not sure about including regular/ongoing challenge communities.
Would a icontest challenge work for this? This one here: https://screen-icons.dreamwidth.org/10898.html
I posted the round on the 29th and it runs until the 16th so that's the correct time span, but I didn't want to tag it because it's a regular challenge, that I would have posted anyways, not special for the Three Weeks. Should I edit the post to add some info about three weeks and a link back to this comm and then tag it? The post won't be on the feed because it's a few days old. What if I post some screen caps at [community profile] capshare or my own comm during the time span, would that qualify to be tagged?
By next week I'll have to put a new challenge up at [community profile] iconthat, could I link back/tag that for Three Weeks if it ends after the three weeks is over?

Anything happening exclusively on DW for the three weeks can absolutely use the tag, even when part of a regular posting schedule :)

Same for anything else you or anybody else posts exclusively to DW during the fest.

could I link back/tag that for Three Weeks if it ends after the three weeks is over?
Any challenge that goes up during the three weeks can use the tag, anything that goes up after the three weeks, I'm thinking no.

Hope that clears it up?
