I'm hosting a reading minithon over at readingtogether. No requirements other than to read something (or somethings) between now and the 15th and share if you'd like. readingtogether is open to any member hosting group reads in general/on specific dates/on specific subjects or genres at any point. Normally there's one big group read in November and I usually host a 'lingering' challenge between Christmas and New Years to read something that's been hanging out on the TBR shelf for awhile. (I'm not the mod - just a member.)

In celebration of Three Weeks for Dreamwidth, there's celebrations going on in two of the tokusatsu comms I run!

For toku100challenge: there is a friending meme! Get to know your fellow tokusatsu writers! The questions for this meme are centered around tokusatsu, writing, and some general ones.

The drabble prompt meme that was created for last year's celebrations is still open too, if anyone would like to take part in that as well.

For tokurecs: the self-reccing period post for the month is up, and has an extended timeframe that will last throughout all the days during the whole celebration period of Three Weeks For Dreamwidth. Share your tokusatsu fanworks! Details on how self-reccing in the comm works are in the linked post.

For 2024, I made a questionnaire using the Random Question Generator. You can use this list, or make your own. If you've just found 3W4DW, that's okay, you can stack the early questions in one post or just skip them. No pressure. I'm also listing folks who are doing questionnaires on the gather post "Three Weeks for Dreamwidth," so more people can find them -- it's a popular activity this year.

In the last 2 years a successful effort was made to support Dreamwidth by gifting points to other DW users. Shall we make it 3? 😉

Since part of the purpose of the 3 Weeks event is to generate support for the Dreamwidth site, I'd like to prompt a call for Dreamwidth users who can spare a little cash to offer points for other Dreamwidth users.

What does that mean?

Dreamwidth services can be purchased through points. As explained at the link: "Points cost 10 cents ($0.10 USD) each and can be used in place of cash in the site store." ( Read more... )

Community culture used to be big back in the day, but as fics drifted over to AO3, fanart and graphics to tumblr, and random thoughts/reviews sprinkled in just about everywhere, the communities have been somewhat left behind. But they're such a wonderful hub for potential new folks to stumble across!

EDITED UPDATE: Donors were all replied to via screened message on the original post linked below. I am also now contacting them via direct message with information.

Just a final post for this event to let everyone know how the Points Gifts challenge worked out.



In the end we had 11 donors and 15 giftees. Points have been allotted and donors have been given details for making their point gifts directly to assigned giftees. Giftees should be seeing messages from Dreamwidth when the gifts go through, which should happen by the end of the month.

Once those are complete we should have added $228 to Dreamwidth's intake this year \o/

Thanks to all the donors and giftees for stepping forward, and to everyone who helped signal boost the challenge!

In this event's first week 8 people stepped forward to donate Dreamwidth points to other site users who wanted to add or try out paid features. Per their pledges we have enough points to gift either 71 people $3 each in points, or fewer people enough points for particular things (such as 6 months of a premium paid account, a rename token, etc.).

Now however it's your turn: we need people who would like paid features to step forward! Leave a comment indicating you'd like some Dreamwidth points, or if you want, mention what you'd specifically like the points for. (That way I can allot points based on desired purchases if we have enough). Comments to this post are screened and all you need say is "Points!".

Remember, paid features support Dreamwidth financially. Having giftees means we add money to Dreamwidth's coffers.

One of Dreamwidth's big advantages compared to other sites is how it is designed for communication. It's not just that it enlarged the amount of posting space, but also commenting space over its original format so that it prioritizes direct interaction.

I was inspired to ask this question for 3 Weeks as a result of an amazing comment I got today on a piece I wrote in 2019.

It's a bit challenging to say what my favorite comment I've ever received is, because after all these years I've gotten a lot of nice ones for things I wrote. But I thought I'd throw the question out here -- do you have a favorite comment?

It might not be about a fanwork, but maybe about another blog post you've made. Or it could be something rewarding or inspiring you received in response to something you said or did here on Dreamwidth.

What is it about the comment that sticks with you? Was it the timing? The content of it? Something it said to motivate or reward you? Or was it an opening to get to know someone new?

Feel free to either respond in a comment here or make a post about it in your own account. Just remember to add the "three weeks for dreamwidth" tag!
